Vug Arakas at the Buckhorn

Vug Arakas at the Buckhorn

Vug Arakas plays music that feels real, raw, and substantial, in a way that absolutely is built to fill the confines of stadiums – and in a way that’s built to be etched into the lives of the people who listen.

Stylistically, yeah, the 80s references are there. The songs are lush and brimming with booming drum tracks, humming synths, reverbed keys. The vocals are delivered with the kind of lilting, charismatic inflections that evoke spoken storytelling – the kind of approach that, to me, always feels earthy and true.  But, maybe more than all of that: these are songs that ache with desperation and hope.

Pacific Range at the Buckhorn

Pacific Range is rooted in the beautiful, sunshiny-coast of California. The band's style takes from many influences ranging from The Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead, to The Band and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Seamus Turner (guitar & vocals) and Nate Ward (drums) met around 2013 while studying music at Chico State. After jamming together and discovering a strong musical connection they formed the band Dakota Cree. Being music students, they utilized the university's recording studio to record an EP. Shortly after, they began performing for different school events and playing local clubs around town.

CB Brand at the Buckhorn

CB Brand at the Buckhorn

Tipping their hat to you from Shaky Town Northeast, CB Brand has been living up to it's moniker as "The Loch Ness Monster of Country Rock Outfits" for years now: appearing through the foam in grainy photos and sound recordings while reeling apologues bandied about in the bars and living rooms of regional hamlets. They've dusted floors and stages up and down the Golden State and Great Basin, releasing the maidenhead "Cloud EP" 7" on Wonder Valley Records in 2006 and more recently a cassette only eponymous release on NYC's Whip Records and wide soundtrack acreage in Calvin Lee Reeder's cinematic fiesta "The Rambler".

Folks are still raving about the Big Sur New Year's Eve 2016-17 three hour marathon dance party that had the Fernwood Resort hanging it from the rafters! With Chadwick Brown vocally/rhythmically steering the group of Sean Hoffman on guitar, Kip Boardman on bass/keys, and Steve Didelot on drums, the band slides across the spectrum of Americana Country and Boogie Rock Music akin to the little amber lamp on an old Wonderbar radio leading down the road to the sparkling river of the lost weekend ahead.

Peppered in with original classics, including the California regional hit "Let's Go Get Stoned" and the favorite-in-Kuala Lumpur "She Came With The Whiskey", CB Brand's set will flip through a well stocked rock and roll-odex to work out a few hand-tooled versions of songs from backcountry waypoints on the musical map and on down the road to that Stuckey's glowing in the distance...

Find them on the freeways, or in the lounge...

Whelan’s music has had comparisons to Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly with some 90’s brit pop thrown in. His first album, Decider was released in 2012, and his brand new record, Sugarland was released in March 2016 and was produced by Dwight bandmate and drummer, Mitch Marine.

Parting Lines at the Buckhorn

Parting Lines at the Buckhorn

Southern California duo, Parting Lines, is the new project of Tim Ramsey and Trevor Beld Jimenez. Longtime members of the bygone Los Angeles outfit, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining, and sidemen to bands: Vetiver, Little Wings, and DIOS.

After ending Tall Tales and the Silver Lining, and when touring and working on other projects came to a slow, Tim and Trevor made a pact to make the music they wanted to hear and dreamed of creating.

Parting Lines, find themselves looking outward with destination unknown. There is a joyful romanticism in their music with nods to Petty, Springsteen, and Fleetwood Mac, but with their ship set sail for modern horizons. Songs about a larger sense of self with rock n’ roll deliverance.
